WANTED:

We are looking for people to help with our Annual ATV Safety Seminar that will be held this Saturday, April 17. The YF & R have been asked to feed the participants so we would only need you for a few hours, not the whole day:)

Also, we are looking for a few volunteers for our Farm Field Day coming up April 22nd @ Gibbons Bro. Dairy in Lewiston. We will be bringing kids in from the local elementary schools and need help at different stations and in general, helping with all the kids! We feel this is a great opportunity to get kids involved and educated about where their food comes from.

These types of things would look great on your applications (which are due May 1st!!)

Please contact Matt or Lena (258-2250) if you would like to help.

Also, if you need help with your applications, please ask. Utah had a great showing at Nationals last year with both the Acheivement Award and Excellence Award. At the meetings held in January the winners gave us tips on how to fill them out.

#1 Try not to leave any blank space. Write down anything you have done that would pertain to the specific question.
#2 Let other people read your application! They said this was a huge help to them. Find someone to proofread your app and give you pointers!

Hope you are enjoying Springtime in the beautiful Cache Valley!!

WELCOME . . .

to the Cache County Young Farmer and Rancher blog!

I hope to keep everyone up-to-date on activities happening throughout our county, state, and nationally as well as being informed on issues concerning our AGRICULTURE industry. I encourage everyone to leave comments and post about certain issues affecting them directly. Please feel free to contact us. (info to your right).

For starters, let me take a minute to introduce ourselves:

This year my husband and I (Matt and Lena Leak) have been asked to be the Young Farmer and Rancher Chairmen for Cache County. We are excited about the possibilities that lie before us and hope that with your help we will be able to make many new friends as well as achieve goals we have set. Matt and I both grew up on small farming operations. He in Southern Idaho on a dairy farm and I in Southern Utah on a crop farm. We met while attending USU and working at the University Dairy in Wellsville. Matt earned his degree a year after we were married and hired on with Cargill, Inc as a Dairy Nutritionist. We are in our third year of owning/operating our own Dairy and raising 4 awesome kids (1 girl, 3 boys)! I stay at home and enjoy my time as a mother, bookkeeper, nurse, calf-feeder, ect. In our spare time we like to camp, ride horses, attend Aggie games, and just be with family! We enjoy our rural lifestyle and simple way of life.

We look forward to serving as your YF&R representatives!
